The former Gable Inn in Bayside is being renovated to make way for new business

The Inn, previously known as the Gable Inn, is under construction.

The Gable Inn, once a popular restaurant and bar in Bayside, is long gone, and crews are in the process of renovating the former eatery for other purposes.

Located at 201-01 Northern Blvd., the Gable Inn opened in the 1960s and closed in the early 2000s. It was rebranded as The Inn but closed many months ago.

It’s not yet known what will replace the restaurant; according to real estate website MLSLI, the space was sold on Sept. 28 of this year for $1,650,000.

Department of Buildings (DOB) work permits for the site have been issued to Duk Jun Park of DKT Contractors LLC based in Flushing. Permits for “minor interior renovations on existing commercial space” are posted on the construction fencing and expire next year.

Signage for Dongbu Construction — a construction and interior design company which specializes in commercial and residential spaces — is also posted at the location.

The Gable Inn was a local staple, known best for its Italian and American food and its warm, welcoming bar atmosphere.

“The place really does have a Cheers way about it,” one Yelp reviewer wrote. “It’s just very local place and everyone really makes you feel welcome.”

In conversation about the space on a thread in the Bayside, Queens Facebook group, there is much speculation and discussion about what locals would like to see take over the space. However, the majority seem to want an eatery with the same comfortable and casual vibe of the old Gable Inn.

“Like many of you, I have very fond memories of the old ‘Gable Inn’, but that’s been gone for quite a while,” group member Mark Kane wrote. “One can only hope that someone will restore it back to how it was back in the day and turn it back into a nice cozy restaurant and bar.”
