Sweet Chick restaurant, owned by rapper Nas, coming to LIC
Rapper Nas, a Queens and Long Island City native will be bringing his eatery, Sweet Chick, to his home neighborhood in 2018. This will be the fifth location of the joint that specializes in chicken and waffles, and will be addressed at 46-42 Vernon Boulevard. The restaurant will open its doors come February. The eatery was founded by another New Yorker, Manhattanite John Seymour back in 2013. Nas became an investor and subsequent co-founder a little while later. Both Seymour and Nas had been planning to establish a Sweet Chick location in LIC for some time now, and the timing is finally right.
This fifth location will be special for the rapper not only because of where it will sit but because it will pay homage to his father, Olu Dara, who was a talented jazz musician. There will be a private room in the restaurant directly inspired by old Harlem jazz clubs, where the popular dish of chicken and waffles first originated.
Besides their specialty chicken and waffles (they serve several varieties), Sweet Chick will offer duck, short rib meatloaf, bavette steak, shrimp and grits, and catfish crusted with cornmeal. They will be serving brunch, too, and they will feature eggs Benedict, pancakes, steak and eggs, granola made in-house and smoked pork hash. [QNS]
